Birthday Dinner at Mei Mei

Birthday Dinner at Mei Mei

I’ll be the first to say, Philly’s restaurant scene is pretty good. But the nightlife? Not necessarily the best. What if I told you one of the best restaurants in Old City, Philadelphia has now incorporated some NY/Vegas/Miami-like nightlife? Cue Mei Mei.

I had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday dinner at Mei Mei with Daniel and two of my best friends. We got dressed up for a fun night out, not really knowing what to expect. I assumed it’d be fun, but it was SO fun. I couldn’t stop talking about this place. And still can’t. Hence this blog post!

The vibes were immaculate. The place was packed, the music selection was ON POINT (major shout out to Dame Williams for that), the drinks were incredible, and the delish Asian-fusion food just didn’t stop coming. Imagine a mid-size restaurant, beautifully designed, with sophisticated, romantic, mysterious vibes with an intimate downstairs lounge just steps from the heart of Old City. That my friends is Mei Mei. Okay so what did we drink + eat? Keep reading…

For cocktails I had:

Lavender Empress (this was dangerously delicious, worth every penny, and totally IG worthy)

Lychee Highball (it was soo good. possibly the best drink of the night)

Fire breathing dragon (tasty with a serious punch)

A bunch of casamigos shots with sparklers (we love that for me)

For starters we had:

(essentially everything & there are 0 regrets about that!

Miso Caesar

Seared Ahi Tuna

Edamame Hummus + Charred Broccolini

Crispy Shrimp Bao Buns

Pan Seared Chicken Dumplings

Korean Fried Chicken Bites

For main plates we had:

(tbh, by the time we got to the main course we were all stuffed but we wanted to try a couple plates because everything looked + smelled so good)

Veggie Fried Rice

Lo Mein (please note, this was the best lo mein I’ve ever had)

Old City with tofu (we all loved this dish)

After dinner, we headed downstairs to the swanky new lounge. Lai Lounge is a tight space, but a really cool spot for late night fun and seeing some of the local Philly celebs (think Eagles players, music artists, etc.). This would actually be a wonderful spot to rent out for a private event! My birthday fell on Labor Day Weekend which was the lounge’s opening. It’s a fresh, new spot that I definitely plan to go to again!
