10 things to DO for Valentine’s Day 2020 in Philly

10 things to DO for Valentine’s Day 2020 in Philly

In my book Valentine’s Day is really overrated, BUT I’m here to serve y’all and if y’all want a list of what’s out there, I’m on it! I’ve outlined the best options to have a unique love fest aka date with your S/O this Friday the 14th.

1 Make Your Own Candles

There are two places in Philly, both BYO, that will host you and your boo while you craft your very own custom candles. Wax + Wine at 10th & Pine St and the new Paddywax on Chestnut St in the Rittenhouse neighborhood.

2. Explore the Barnes

One of the most beautiful museums in Philadelphia is the Barnes and this makes for a great date, especially if you want to play hooky on Friday (hours are only 11-5). Stay warm inside while strolling through lots of interesting exhibits. Pro Tip: if you have a college ID, bring it! You’ll save $20!

3. Skate the Night Away

Two options here – 1) The Blue Cross RiverRink is having a VDay Skatewhere for $25 each you receive one ice skating ticket, one ice skate shoe rental, one rose, one box of chocolates, and one keepsake photo! 2) At Dilworth Park there is a FREE Sweetheart Skatefrom 7-10pm.

4. Laughter is Love

Helium Comedy Club has a weekend show for V-Day called, “VALENTINE'S WEEKEND WITH JON DORE” and there are two showings Friday night! One at 7:30pm and another at 10pm both have tickets for only $25 a person. Personally I’d do a dinner in center city (ones close by are Village Whisky, Zama, VStreet, Vernick) and then book the 10pm show to end the night on a funny high note!

5. R-E-S-P-E-C-T

See a live performance at the Kimmel Center with Philly Pops! At 8pm there are $35 tickets still available for the Queen of Soul’s dedication show. It’s won awards it’s THAT good!

6. Vroom Vroom

Depending who you (and your partner) are, the Philly Auto Show may be the perfect, unique way to spend Valentine’s Day together! The show is HUGE. I went on opening day and it took an hour just to get from one end to the other so it’s definitely a good chunk of time to spend with one another. Antique cars, famous cars, and brand new spankin’ cars are awaiting you! (You can buy your tickets at the door FYI.)

7. Ceramics Date Night

A tad pricey, but such a cool experience. At the Clay Studio you can make something beautiful that you take HOME and have forever with your loved one when you book tickets for their Valentine’s Date Nighthappening all weekend.

8. Boyz II Men

How’s this for a fun throwback?! Boyz II Men are coming in hot for an 8pm performance at The Met. Ticketsare not cheap, but YOLO, right?

9. Dance the Night Away

For $40 you can snag a ticket for open bar at the Valentine’s Day Latin Night aboard the Moshulu! (There are also lesser expensive tickets if you’re not in the mood to drink.) I haven’t been, but this sounds like such a fun experience!!

10. Don’t Ya Want S’more?!

Shane Confectionary is hosting the cutest make-your-own S’moresevent Friday night from 7-9pm for $30 a pair. I’ve been to Shane’s before and it is soo cute inside and smells freakin WONDERFUL!

I hope you find this guide helpful!! And remember to not feel so pressured when it comes to these Hallmark-type holidays. You should love and respect your S/O always, no matter the day! And don’t forget if you want to celebrate but you’re on a budget a nice, romantic meal at home is so sweet, thoughtful, and doable.
